Roos end four-game skid with road win over California Baptist
A trip to Southern California was a cure for what ailed the Kansas City Roos.
KC put an end to a four-game losing streak on Saturday night with a 67-57 victory over California Baptist in Riverside, Calif.
The victory ended California Baptist’s run of wins at four games.
The Roos (10-11, 3-4 WAC) beat the team that started the day in second place in the WAC. With the loss, the Lancers stand at 14-6, 4-2.
Franck Kamgain led Kansas City with 16 points. Kamgain also hauled in six rebounds. Brandon McKissic chipped in with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Ferron Flavors Jr. had a game-high 19 points for the Lancers.
The Roos made 45.5 percent of their shots from the floor (25-55), including 8-19 on three-pointers. The Lancers, meanwhile, made 32.7 percent of their shots from the field (18-25).
Kansas City out-rebounded California Baptist 37-35.
The Roos first started to grab a hold of this one late in the first half. The game was knotted at 25-25 with 3 minutes left in the half when Kansas City went on a 9-2 run for a 34-27 lead at the break.
Kansas City picked up in the same spot to start the second half, scoring the first nine points in establishing a double-digit lead at 43-27.
The Roos were able to keep that double-digit distance for most of the rest of the game. The Lancers did cut it to six with 1 minute left, but Kansas City was able to hold them off with the help of some key makes at the free-throw line. Kamgain and Jordan Giles (11 points for the game) each made a pair of free throws down the stretch.
Kansas City is set to play host to Crowley’s Ridge (Ark.) at Swinney Center on Monday night.
