Jahshire Hardnett leads KC Roos basketball team to fourth straight victory

The KC Roos basketball team won its fourth in a row on Saturday night, and once again it needed the help of Jahshire Hardnett down the stretch to get there.

Hardnett scored a game-high 17 points as the Kangaroos beat Utah Valley 68-63 on Saturday night at Swinney Center.

Hardnett, whose 28 points were hugely instrumental in Thursday night’s triple-overtime home victory over Seattle, hit a three-pointer with 35 seconds left that put the Roos up for good at 64-63 on Saturday.

KC had a 30-19 lead at halftime and seemed in control of the game. But Utah Valley (7-10, 1-1 WAC) battled back and tied it up at 56-56 with 3 minutes, 40 seconds left in the game.

Utah Valley went up 63-61 with 1:20 left. But Hardnett then went on a personal 7-0 run, including the go-ahead three-pointer, to help the Roos get the victory.

Jordan Giles finished with 16 points for the Roos, who improved to 9-7 and 2-0 in the WAC.

Brandon Averette led Utah Valley with 16 points.

KC made 7 of 17 three-pointers to Utah Valley’s 4 of 19.

The Kangaroos play at Texas Rio Grande Valley on Thursday.
