Roos ground Toledo Rockets 72-57, stay perfect at Swinney in improving to 6-7

The Roos rebounded well from Saturday’s rout at the hands of the Kansas Jayhawks.

Junior guard Brandon McKissic scored 18 points with six assists and senior Javan White had 14 points and 11 rebounds as UMKC beat Toledo 72-57 Tuesday night at Swinney Center.

UMKC, which was coming off a 98-57 loss to now-No. 1-ranked KU at Sprint Center, improved to 4-0 at home this season.

The Roos (6-7) led 32-20 at halftime en route to handing Toledo (8-3) its third loss of the year.

UMKC senior guard Rob Whitfield hit four three-pointers in nine attempts from beyond the arc and finished with 16 points. McKissic was 8 of 12 from the field and also hit a pair of threes.

The Roos were 9 of 23 from three-point range as a team.

Senior forward Willie Jackson led the Rockets with 14 points and 15 rebounds. But Toledo was cold from long distance, going 3 of 17 from three-point range.

The Roos snapped a three-game losing streak and are at South Dakota Sunday in their final game before the Christmas/New Year’s break.
