UMKC loses heartbreaker in overtime
After four losses to start the season, UMKC could just about taste its first win of the basketball season on Saturday.
Still there was no meal: The Kangaroos lost to Eastern Washington 87-80 in overtime in Cheney, Wash., and dropped to 0-5. The game was part of the 2K Classic Benefiting Wounded Warrior Project.
Two free throws by Rob Whitfield with 10 seconds left in regulation put UMKC up 69-66, but after a timeout Eastern Washington’s Jessee Hunt drained a three-pointer at the buzzer and sent the game to OT.
Hunt had 32 points, 12 rebounds and four assists for Eastern Washington and scored eight of his team’s 18 overtime points.
Xavier Bishop finished the game with 28 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Kangaroos.
UMKC is set to play host to Drake at Municipal Auditorium on Wednesday.
