UMKC gets knocked back by Loyola
UMKC was hoping to pick up its first big win of the season on Thursday night with a home game at Municipal Auditorium.
The Kangaroos, however, were unable to make that happen. They lost to Loyola of Chicago 66-56.
With the loss, UMKC dropped to 1-3 on the season. Loyola, meanwhile improved to 3-0.
Defense and UMKC had the upper hand in the first half as the Tigers took a 26-20 lead into the break.
But by the midpoint of the second half, Loyola went ahead 46-44 on a Clayton Custer three-pointer and never looked back. Loyola ultimately outscored UMKC 46-30 in the second half on 60.9 percent shooting.
Custer, a junior guard who played in high school at Blue Valley Northwest, led the Ramblers with 20 points for the game on a 7-of-11 shooting. He was 2 of 4 on three-pointers.
Broderick Robinson led UMKC with 16 points and seven rebounds.
The Kangaroos made 16 off 55 shots (29.1 percent) from the field for the game.
UMKC will be playing in the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla., starting Monday.
