UMKC beats Missouri S&T 79-55 in men’s basketball
The UMKC men got off to a good start and cruised to a 79-55 win over Missouri S&T in Saturday’s exhibition game at Municipal Auditorium.
The Kangaroos led by 19 points at halftime despite making only 36.8 percent of their shots from the field. UMKC did much better in the second half, connecting on 56.3 percent of its shots.
Senior Martez Harrison, who was selected to the preseason All-Western Athletic Conference first team by media and coaches, led the way for the Kangaroos with 14 points in only 14 minutes. LaVell Boyd and Broderick Newbill both scored 10 points for UMKC.
UMKC women triumph
The UMKC women were sizzling from the field Saturday in a 115-50 win over Kansas Christian in an exhibition game at Municipal Auditorium.
UMKC made 55.1 percent of its shots. Aries Washington, who went to North Kansas City High School, was nine of 11 and scored 19 points.
The Kangaroos held Kansas Christian to 29 percent from the field.
