Mizzou basketball makes Michael Porter Jr.’s top five, KU among those left out
Missouri fans still have a glimmer of hope in the Michael Porter Jr. sweepstakes.
Porter cut his list of prospective schools to five Monday, announcing the trimmed-down list in an Instagram post.
The Tigers made the top-five cut along presumed frontrunner Washington, Virginia, Indiana and Oklahoma.
The Huskies are considered a runaway favorite to land Porter.
Washington is coached by Porter’s godfather, Lorenzo Romar, who hired Porter’s dad and former Mizzou women’s basketball assistant coach, Michael Porter Sr., as an assistant earlier this month.
The younger Porter — a small forward and the No. 2 player in the 2017 recruiting class, according to Rivals — will move to Seattle with his father.
Porter’s younger brother, Jontay, a power forward in the 2018 recruiting class, committed to the Huskies last summer.
Michael Porter Jr. trimmed his list of schools to 10 in August and later added Oklahoma for a total of 11 schools.
He is no longer considering Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, Stanford, UCLA or Syracuse.
Porter averaged 28.5 points on 65.6-percent shooting with 11.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.0 steals last season for Tolton Catholic in Columbia.
The Trailblazers finished 30-3 and won the Missouri Class 3 state championship, nipping Barstow Academy 62-60 in the title game.
Two of Porter’s sisters, Bri and Cierra, play for the Mizzou women’s basketball team.
