Former Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk is transferring to Eastern Kentucky
Turns out, the “EKU” that appeared last weekend on former Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk’s social media profile did stand for Eastern Kentucky University.
A spokesman for the Colonels’ football team confirmed Friday that Mauk had signed an athletic grant-in-aid agreement.
Mauk, who graduated from Mizzou last weekend, will be eligible immediately as a graduate-student transfer. He was dismissed from the football team in January following his junior season.

Eastern Kentucky, which competes in the Football Championship Subdivision, finished 6-5 last season, including a 5-3 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Colonels dismissed Dean Hood after the season and hired former Tennessee and Cincinnati assistant coach Mark Elder.
According to Mauk’s recruiting page on Rivals.com, Elder was one of the Bearcats’ primary recruiters for Mauk, who set several national high school records at Kenton (Ohio) High. Ultimately, Mauk picked Missouri, where he redshirted in 2012 before going 17-5 as a starter during the next three seasons.
After helping MU to consecutive SEC East championships, Mauk retained the starting job in 2015 despite a stern training-camp challenge from Lee’s Summit graduate Drew Lock. Missouri started 3-1 last fall behind Mauk, who was suspended for a failed drug test after a loss at Kentucky in the SEC opener.
Mauk was briefly reinstated by former Tigers coach Gary Pinkel in late October during a bye week but he was suspended again — this time, for the remainder of the season — after an incident at a Columbia bar only a few days later.
