Kansas’ loss is Missouri’s gain.

The Jayhawks’ leader in scoring and assists, sophomore Lauren Aldridge, informed coach Brandon Schneider on March 10 that she intended to transfer.

Aldridge, a 5-foot-7 guard from Marshfield, Mo., announced Monday on Twitter that she’d join the Tigers.

“After completing a second round of the recruiting process, I have made the decision to transfer to the University of Missouri,” Aldridge posted on the social media website.

Aldridge led Kansas, which finished 6-25 and 0-18 in Big 12 play last season after going 15-17 two years ago, at 11.1 points and 2.35 assists per game last season. She had started all 63 games during her two seasons in Lawrence.

Aldridge, who was selected to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team after the 2014-15 season, made a team-high 60 three-pointers and shot 35.5 percent from long range last season.

Schneider said he was “disappointed and shocked” in a release announcing Aldridge’s impending transfer earlier this month.

Aldridge, who will have to sit out next season and has two years of eligibility remaining, should provide much-needed depth at point guard for Missouri in 2017-18. She was the No. 63 point guard in the 2014 recruiting class, according to ESPNW.

The Tigers return their top two point guards, Lindsey Cunningham and Lianna Doty, off a team that finished 22-10 and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001.

Both Cunningham and Doty will be seniors next season, so the timing of the Aldridge addition is perfect for coach Robin Pingeton’s squad.
