Mizzou’s Sophie Cunningham snags fifth weekly SEC award
For a record-tying fifth time this season, Missouri guard Sophie Cunningham was chosen Tuesday as the SEC women’s basketball freshman of the week.
Cunningham scored 24 points with 10 rebounds Sunday in a 69-55 win at Auburn, her third double-double of the season.
The victory also propelled the Tigers, 21-6 and 8-6 in the SEC, back into the Associated Press rankings at No. 24.
Cunningham was 6 of 9 from the field and 10 of 12 from the free-throw line in a dazzlingly efficient performance.
She leads the Tigers in scoring at 13.3 points per game and ranks second in rebounding at 5.6 per game and assists at 2.9 per game.
Cunningham, who broke the school record with 42 points Nov. 22 against Wake Forest, also was chosen as the SEC freshman of the week Nov. 17, Nov. 24, Dec. 8 and Jan. 19.
She already ranks fourth among active players with five weekly honors from the conference.
