Missouri swept to the Mid-American Conference regular-season title for the second straight season Sunday with a 26-14 dual victory against Northern Illinois in DeKalb, Ill.
It’s the second straight season the Tigers were 8-0 during the regular season.
Missouri took a lead it wouldn’t relinquish when senior 174-pounder Blaise Butler pinned Trace Engelkes in the dual’s second bout.
Senior Cody Johnston followed with a second straight pin at 184, and junior J’den Cox claimed a major decision at 197, which extended the Tigers’ lead to 16-4.

Northern Illinois won three of the next four matches, with sophomore Barlow McGhee breaking up the run with an 8-5 decision at 125 pounds.
The Huskies closed within 18-14 before junior 149-pounder Lavion Mayes and senior 157-pounder Le’Roy Barnes closed with victories for Missouri, the latter being a major decision.
The Tigers have won three consecutive MAC conference championships and also won the Big 12 championship in 2012 before leaving for the SEC, which doesn’t sponsor wrestling.
