Some tickets remain available for the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Enshrinement on Sunday in Columbia, where former Tigers great Jon Sundvold will be honored as a Missouri Sports Legend.

Sundvold, a 2012 Missouri Sports Hall of Fame inductee, will be guest of honor at a celebration that also includes the enshrinement of 15 players, coaches, administrators and even a fan.

“It’s a great honor to be named a Legend,” Sundvold said Thursday by phone.

Former MU athletic director Joe Castiglione, former Tigers defensive lineman Jerome Sally, former Missouri basketball standout Al Eberhard, MU team physician Dr. Pat Smith, Tigers cheerleading coach Suzy Thompson former Missouri golf coach Richard Poe and avid MU fan Alvin “Squeaky” Marquart are among those set for enshrinement.

Sundvold called Legend honor a reflection of Blue Springs, where he graduated from high school, and the wider Kansas City community as well as a reflection of the University of Missouri.

He scored more than 2,100 points as a high school star and still ranks No. 11 scorer on Missouri’s career list with 1,597 points from 1979-83, playing for fellow Missouri Hall of Fame Sports Legend Norm Stewart.

Sundvold, who went on to a successful career as a broadcaster and businessman, averaged 7.7 points during a nine-year NBA career with the SuperSonics, Spurs and Heat.

“When I see Al Eberhard and Jerome Sally going in — good friends of mine, I’ve known Jerome forever and Al — I’ve always felt when a Mizzou athlete goes in, white or black, we all go in,” Sundvold said. “When a Mizzou player is honored, I’ve always felt that we are all honored.”

Champion equestrian rider Gayle Lampe, former Cardinals outfielder Charlie James, longtime Show-Me State Games director Ken Ash, longtime Missouri State High School Activities Association director Jack Miles, Columbia high school tennis coach Ben Loeb, powerlifting champion Kate Walker, Olympic race walker Larry Young and former Rock Bridge football coach/athletic director John Henage also will be enshrined.

Tickets for the ceremony at the Holiday Inn Executive Center, 2200 I-70 Drive SW in Columbia, are $150 or $1,500 for a table of 10. A reception starts at noon with the program scheduled for 1 p.m.
