MU notes: Time announced for BYU game at Arrowhead
Missouri’s game against BYU will kick off at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at Arrowhead Stadium.
The SEC announced times and broadcast information for that week’s games on Monday, giving coach Gary Pinkel’s squad the late game on the SEC Network.
It marks the second meeting between the Tigers and Cougars, who rallied in the closing minutes for a 21-17 victory in the 1983 Holiday Bowl behind quarterback Steve Young during the only previous matchup.
The game also marks Missouri’s first in Kansas City since a 24-10 victory against Kansas in the 2011 regular-season finale during the program’s final season in the Big 12.
The Tigers are 5-2 overall at Arrowhead, including a 4-1 record against the Jayhawks. That includes arguably MU’s biggest victory in program history, a 36-28 win against KU in 2007 with the No. 1 ranking at stake.
Missouri also beat Arkansas State in the 2005 season opener and lost to Oklahoma in the 2008 Big 12 Championship Game at Arrowhead.
Munlyn wins SEC weekly award
Missouri middle blocker Alyssa Munlyn was chosen Monday as the SEC freshman volleyball player of the week after her performance in home wins against Alabama and Auburn.
Munlyn totaled 20 kills with an eye-popping .515 hitting percentage and added 14 blocks in a pair of five-set victories.
It was her first career conference honor.
Munlyn was the first Tigers this season with a kill-block double-double, recording 12 kills and 10 blocks against the Crimson Tide.
Missouri’s 23 blocks as a team in the match were fourth-most in program history.
The Tigers, 20-3 overall and 8-2 in the SEC, return to action at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Texas A&M. The match will be broadcast on ESPNU.
Brothers shut out of Butkus semifinals
Despite leading the nation with 103 tackles, Missouri senior linebacker Kentrell Brothers wasn’t among 10 semifinalists announced Monday for the Butkus Award as the nation’s best linebacker.
Five SEC players — LSU’s Kendall Beckwith and Deion Jones, Georgia’s Leonard Floyd, Florida’s Antonio Morrison and Alabama’s Reggie Ragland — made the cut.
Brothers boasts 12 more tackles than any other player in the country and 17 more than any other SEC linebacker.
USC’s Su’a Cravens, Utah State’s Kyler Fackrell, Stanford’s Blake Martinez, Ohio State’s Raekwon McMillan and Notre Dame’s Jaylon Smith almost were chosen as national semifinalists.
Tigers freshman punter Corey Fatony is a candidate for the Ray Guy Award.
Fatony is one of six freshmen in consideration for the award, which will announce 10 semifinalists on Nov. 13.
