Missouri has reinstated junior quarterback Maty Mauk after a monthlong suspension, sources confirmed to The Star.

Mauk was suspended Sept. 29 for an unspecified violation of team rules and missed the Tigers’ last four games.

Missouri, which has a bye this week and plays Mississippi State on Nov. 5 at Memorial Stadium, was 3-1 at the time of Mauk’s suspension.

Mauk returned to practice Tuesday for the first time since his suspension took place. He’ll compete with freshman Drew Lock, who started the last four games, moving forward.

A team spokesman would not confirm Mauk’s reinstatement but indicated that coach Gary Pinkel will address it Wednesday during the weekly SEC Football Coaches Teleconference.

When asked about Mauk’s suspension during the last month, Pinkel has declined to discuss any specifics and wouldn’t even say whether he’d been in contact with Mauk.

The Tigers, 4-4 overall and 1-4 in the SEC, swept three nonconference games before a 21-13 loss at Kentucky to open SEC play in Mauk’s final game before the suspension.

Mauk, who has started 18 straight games for Missouri, was 57 of 110 passes — a 51.8 completion percentage — for 654 yards with six touchdowns and four interceptions in four games.

He went 15 of 30 for 180 yards with a touchdown and no picks in in the loss to the Wildcats.

Lock helped lead Missouri to a 24-10 win against South Carolina in his first start, but the Tigers have now dropped three straight with losses to Florida and at Georgia and Vanderbilt.

Lock completed 62 of 127 passes for 538 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in his four starts.

Junior offensive lineman Malik Cuellar, a transfer from City College of San Francisco, also was suspended on Sept. 29 along with Mauk, but he was reinstated after one game.
