MU’s Bri Kulas selected by San Antonio in WNBA Draft

Former Missouri standout Bri Kulas was selected Monday by the San Antonio Stars in the third round of the WNBA Draft.

A Shawnee Mission North graduate who also played at Kansas State and Johnson County Community College, Kulas was the No. 28 overall selection.

She is the seventh Tigers women’s basketball player drafted into the league and the first since Christine Flores in 2012.

“I am absolutely thrilled for Bri,” Missouri coach Robin Pingeton said in a release from MU athletics. “This is a great honor for both her and our program. Bri has worked extremely hard for this opportunity and she has proven all season long that she has the ability to play at this level.”

Kulas was a first-team All-SEC selection last season after averaging 18.3 points per game as a senior. She topped 1,000 points in two seasons at Missouri.

Kulas joins Flores, who was drafted by the Phoenix Mercury, LaToya Bod (Charlotte Sting, 2006), Christelle N’Garsanet (New York Liberty, 2006), Evan Unrau (Washington Mystics, 2004), Amanda Lassiter (Houston Comets, 2001) and Marlena Williams (Indiana Fever, 2001) among the Tigers’ all-time draft picks.

“It has been remarkable to watch her grow both as a player and as a leader and I am confident she is more than ready for this next phase of her playing career,” Pingeton said. “She has a true passion for the game and it will be fun for all of us to continue watching her play.”
