Assistant coach Mark Phelps leaving Frank Haith’s staff at Missouri

Mark Phelps spent one season on Frank Haith’s basketball staff at Missouri, but his time with the Tigers ended Tuesday.

A spokesman for Missouri confirmed that Phelps, who was the coach at Drake for five seasons before joining Haith for the 2013-14 season as an assistant coach, was no longer on the Tigers’ staff.

ESPN reported that Phelps would join first-year coach Steve Wojciechowski’s staff at Marquette. The Golden Eagles hired Wojciechowski on April 1.

Marquette finished 17-15 last season and lost in the Big East tournament quarterfinals.

After the season, coach Buzz Williams left for Virginia Tech and Marquette hired Wojciechowski, who had been Duke’s associate head coach and had served on Mike Krzyzewski’s staff for 15 seasons.

Phelps, a native of Virginia Beach, Va., was fired at Drake after going 77-86 in five seasons.
