The Southeastern Conference flexed its collective muscle during the opening weekend of the college football season, going 12-1 overall.

The reward Tuesday was a record 10 teams in the Associated Press Top 25. The SEC also owned the old record of eight teams, a mark it matched in the preseason poll.

That record-setting group included Missouri, which jumped three spots to No. 21 after a 34-3 win against Southeast Missouri.

The Tigers benefitted from losses by Arizona State and Wisconsin and also leapfrogged an Arizona team that struggled to put away Texas-San Antonio in its season opener.

Next, Missouri will become the highest-ranked team ever to play at Arkansas State when the teams kick off at 6 p.m. Saturday in Jonesboro, Ark.

The Tigers weren’t the only SEC team making a move in the poll.

Ohio State remained a unanimous No. 1 after dispatching Virginia Tech on Monday, but Alabama and TCU flip-flopped spots behind the Buckeyes.

The Crimson Tide moved up to No. 2 after easing past Wisconsin, while the Horned Frogs struggled to pull away at Minnesota.

Texas A&M, which thumped Arizona State at Reliant Stadium in Houston, was the biggest mover in this week’s poll, vaulting 11 spots to No. 16.

Auburn remained No. 6, Georgia dropped one spot to No. 10 and LSU, whose opener against McNeese State was canceled, held steady at No. 14.

No. 17 Mississippi and No. 18 Arkansas stayed put in the ranking, while Tennessee moved up two spots to No. 23 and Mississippi State advance one spot to crack the poll at No. 25.

The Big 12 has three teams in the poll — No. 3 TCU, No. 4 Baylor and No. 19 Oklahoma.

Missouri also moved up two spots in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll, checking in at No. 21 on Tuesday.
