Royals pitcher Aaron Crow, three others to join MU sports hall of fame

Royals pitcher Aaron Crow is among four athletes selected for induction into the Missouri athletics hall of fame.

Crow headlines the 2013 class, which also comprises track All-American Ashley Wysong, basketball standout Dan Pippin and former swim star John Putnam.

The four will be inducted at an 11 a.m. ceremony Feb. 15 at the Reynolds Alumni Center. They’ll also be recognized at halftime of the men’s basketball game against Tennessee later that day at Mizzou Arena.

• Crow, who grew up in Wakarusa, Kan., won the Roger Clemens Award as the nation’s top pitcher in 2008 when he went 13-0 with a 2.35 ERA, including a 43-inning shutout streak.

In three seasons at Missouri, Crow appeared in 52 games, including 46 starts, going 23-8 with a 3.27 ERA. He was drafted by the Nationals ninth overall in 2008 and then signed with the Royals, who selected him 12th overall in 2009.

• Wysong, a Nevada, Mo., native, owns Missouri’s indoor and outdoor 800-meter records. She was a four-time NCAA All-American in the event and earned 12 All-Big 12 honors during her career.

• Pippin, a native of Waynesville, Mo., was a two-time all-Big Six performer in 1944 and 1947.

He later helped the U.S. team win the Olympic gold medal in 1952 in Helsinki, Finland, and went on to an AAU career that included a 1952 national championship with the Peoria Cats of the National Industrial Basketball League.

• Putman, a Carthage, Mo., native, was a four-time MVP for the Tigers men’s swimming team. He graduated as the program record-holder in nine events.
