Cameron Biedscheid will transfer to MU

At around the 2-minute mark, Missouri freshman Johnathan Williams III skied for an offensive rebound and tried for a left-handed put-back dunk in the same motion. The ball clanged off the back iron and Georgia scored back-to-back layups at the other end, turning a one-point deficit into a 56-53 lead.

Missouri confirmed Wednesday that former St. Louis high school standout Cameron Biedscheid had transferred from Notre Dame.

Biedscheid, a 6-foot-7 small forward who averaged 31.7 points as a senior at Cardinal Ritter College Prep, was ranked as the No. 28 prospect in the nation two years ago by Rivals.com and played in 34 games for the Fighting Irish last season, averaging 6.2 points and 1.4 rebounds in 17 minutes a game.

“I’m really excited about the addition of Cam,” Haith said in a news release. “He is a talented young man from a great family, and his addition gets us back into St. Louis, where they play fantastic basketball at the high school and AAU levels. His skill set fits our program well and we are looking forward to having him join our program at the start of the spring semester.”

He elected to redshirt this season and announced last month that he would transfer.

Biedscheid, who will be eligible next January if he enrolls at another school for the spring semester, visited Missouri last week.

The Tigers have a scholarship available next season after Stefan Jankovic recently left the program and transferred to Hawaii.

Several Tigers have transferred from other NCAA Division I program under Haith and enjoyed success, including this year’s starting backcourt: senior Earnest Ross (Auburn) and juniors Jordan Clarkson (Tulsa) and Jabari Brown (Oregon).

Former guard Keion Bell (Pepperdine) and former center Alex Oriakhi (Connecticut) also were transfers along with current Tigers Deuce Bello (Baylor) and Zach Price (Louisville). Both Bello and Price become eligible next season.

• Missouri’s 26-game home win streak was snapped with the loss against Georgia. That streak had been tied with Stephen F. Austin for the longest in the nation.

The Tigers hadn’t lost at home since Feb. 21, 2012, when Frank Martin’s Kansas State team hung a 78-68 loss on Missouri at Mizzou Arena.

Oddly, Stephen F. Austin’s coach is a former Martin assistant with the Wildcats, Brad Underwood.
