Missouri star running back Ahmad Hardy was shot while attending a concert in Mississippi on Sunday morning, the school announced in a statement Monday. Hardy had surgery Sunday and is in stable condition, the program said.

“Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family and fans,” the school’s statement read. “We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support.”

Hardy’s injuries are unknown at this time and so is his return to the field.

Hardy, 20, is a Brookhaven, Mississippi native who spent his freshman year at Louisiana-Monroe before he transferred to Mizzou last season. In Columbia, he became one of the best running backs in the nation, leading the SEC with 1,649 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. He is also the second Missouri player to rush for 250 or more yards in two separate games in a season.

Hardy was an All-American and received some Heisman buzz during Mizzou’s 8-5 season last year.

The Tigers are slated to open their season on Sept. 3 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
