  • Coach Drinkwitz names Green offensive captain, praises his adaptability.

Missouri Tigers junior football player Cayden Green has been named a preseason second-team All-American by The Associated Press.

The offensive lineman was chosen as a guard, though it might not be the position at which he starts this season.

Entering his second year with the Tigers, Green — a former Lee’s Summit North High School standout — has racked up numerous selections to preseason teams. MU coach Eli Drinkwitz named him as one of the team’s offensive captains Saturday, alongside center Connor Tollison and quarterbacks Beau Pribula and Sam Horn.

Green was the only player from Mizzou to land on either the AP first or second team.

Despite playing at left guard in 2024, it’s been apparent in the last week that Green is instead lining up at left tackle. Rising redshirt junior Jayven Richardson and redshirt sophomore Johnny Williams IV were originally the two players in the mix there at the start of fall camp.

Drinkwitz praised Green for his adaptability throughout Missouri’s revision of the offensive line.

“Cayden’s been an unbelievable team player,” Drinkwitz said Saturday following Missouri’s scrimmage at Lindenwood. “He’s played left tackle. That’s what he’s always been, and he looks like a natural to it to me.

”It hasn’t been confirmed where Green will start Week 1 against Central Arkansas as of yet. Whether it be left guard or left tackle, he is still expected to be one the most productive players on the offensive line.”
