Dennis Gates’ first hire as Missouri’s basketball coach has taken another job.

Assistant coach Charlton “C.Y.” Young has been named to the staff at Miami (Florida), under new coach Jai Lucas, a former Duke assistant.

Young, a Miami native, joined Gates upon his hire in 2022. The Tigers have appeared in the NCAA Tournament twice in three seasons.

Last season, Missouri finished 22-12 and was a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament, a year after posting no victories in the SEC play.

Gates and Young had served together as assistant coaches for six years under Leonard Hamilton at Florida State. Young also served as a head coach at Georgia Southern.

Missouri is down two assistant coaches. Earlier this summer, Rob Summers became the head coach at Cleveland State.
