Former 5-star Missouri Tigers DE Williams Nwaneri will transfer to Nebraska | Reports
On Thursday morning, former Mizzou football edge rusher Williams Nwaneri officially entered the transfer portal. By the afternoon, the former five-star recruit was set to transfer to Nebraska, per multiple media reports.
On3’s Hayes Fawcett first reported Nwaneri’s plans to enter the portal Tuesday.
Nwaneri entered the transfer portal with a no contact tag, signaling that he knew where he wanted to go and that other teams were not permitted to reach out to him. Nwaneri’s former Lee’s Summit North coach Jamar Mozee is on the Cornhuskers’ staff, which likely played a large role in the quick decision.
The Lee’s Summit North product was the No. 8 overall player and No. 1 defensive lineman in the Class of 2024. When he announced his commitment to the Tigers in August of 2023, he became Missouri’s third-highest ranked recruit in program history.
At one point, Nwaneri was the No. 1-ranked player in the country by On3. He finished ranked between Nos. 6-8 by On3, 247Sports and Rivals.
In his lone season with the Missouri Tigers, Nwaneri recorded just two tackles and one sack.
The Tigers’ 2024 recruiting class, one that ranked No. 21 in the country, has now seen two of its three top-ranked players enter the transfer portal. Former four-star defensive end Jaylen Brown joined Nwaneri in the portal Wednesday.
