Bowl game projections: Where Mizzou football is slated ahead of regular-season finale
The Missouri Tigers picked up a dominating road win against Mississippi State last week, moving to 8-3 on the year.
As Mizzou prepares for one last contest at Faurot Field this week against Arkansas, it also looks toward what’s next — specifically, its bowl destination.
With three losses, the College Football Playoff is out of the picture for the Tigers. Here’s where national outlets are currently projecting the Tigers, including one popular pick out west…
ESPN, USA Today, Athlon Sports and College Football News: Las Vegas Bowl
ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura projects the Tigers to head to Las Vegas for this bowl. He projects they’ll see the USC Trojans on Dec. 27, who became bowl eligible last week with a 19-13 win over UCLA.
Erick Smith from USA Today has the same projection.
Steve Lassan from Athlon Sports projects the Tigers will see the Washington Huskies (6-5), and College Football News projects they’ll face Colorado (8-3).
CBS Sports: Music City Bowl
CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm has the Tigers playing the defending national champion Michigan in Nashville on Dec. 30. The Wolverines, under first year head coach Sherrone Moore, became bowl eligible just last week after a 50-6 rout against Northwestern.
This would be a long overdue trip down south for the Tigers, as Mizzou pulled out of the Music City Bowl against Iowa in 2020 due to COVID-19 cases in the program.
Action Network, ESPN and 247Sports: Gator Bowl
Action Network’s Brett McMurphy has the Tigers returning to the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida, for the first time since 1968. McMurphy projects they’ll face the 7-4 Louisville Cardinals on Jan. 2.
ESPN’s Mark Schlabach shares McMurphy’s projection, while 247Sports’ Brad Crawford places the Tigers in the Gator Bowl against the 8-3 Duke Blue Devils.
The Athletic: Texas Bowl
This week’s bowl projections from Scott Dochterman and Stewart Mandel at The Athletic project the Tigers facing the 7-4 TCU Horned Frogs in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 31. It would be the first matchup between these two programs since 1990, and Mizzou’s first trip to the Texas Bowl since its 2017 loss to the Texas Longhorns.
