Mizzou football’s Connor Tollison to miss rest of season with knee injury | Report
Missouri center Connor Tollison will miss the remainder of the 2024 season due to a knee injury he suffered in Saturday night’s 30-23 win over Oklahoma, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Monday.
Tollison, a redshirt junior, has started 34 games for the Tigers, including all 22 the past two seasons.
Tollison was injured while blocking on the first of Theo Wease Jr.’s two touchdown receptions against the Sooners. Redshirt senior Drake Heismeyer replaced the 6-foot-4, 290-pound Tollison for the remainder of the contest.
Heismeyer is presumably in line to take over as Mizzou’s starting center after appearing in 48 games across five seasons with the Tigers. He has yet to log a start.
Before his injury, Tollison was named to the preseason watch list for the Rimington Trophy, given annually to the nation’s top center. He is also considered a potential 2025 NFL Draft selection, although the junior does have one year of eligibility remaining should he choose to remain in college.
Tollison is now the fifth Tigers player to have their season cut short due to injury. Quarterback Sam Horn and defensive end Darris Smith both suffered season-ending injuries ahead of the season, while linebacker Khalil Jacobs and defensive end Joe Moore III were both injured for the year against UMass on Oct. 12.
Triston Newson named SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Tigers linebacker Triston Newson was named the Southeastern Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Newson logged 10 total tackles and six solo tackles — both season highs — in the Tigers’ victory against Oklahoma. The graduate student from Independence, Mississippi, also logged 2½ tackles for a loss, including a strip sack on the Sooners’ penultimate drive of the game that paved the way for Zion Young’s 17-yard winning scoop-and-score.
Newson was a junior-college transfer to Missouri prior to the 2023 season. He has appeared in eight games for the Tigers in this year’s campaign after playing in all 13 contests for Missouri last season.
Start time for Mizzou-Mississippi State announced
Missouri will play its final road game of the season against Mississippi State at 3:15 p.m. on Nov. 23 in Starkville, Mississippi, the SEC announced.
It will air on the SEC Network immediately following the 11:45 a.m. kickoff between UMass and Georgia in Athens, Georgia.
The Tigers hope to pick up their first victory in Starkville since they topped the Bulldogs there 14-3 on Oct. 3, 1981.
