Mizzou football lands former Lee’s Summit North OL Cayden Green from transfer portal

Mizzou football got its guy in transfer offensive lineman Cayden Green.

It just took a little longer than originally planned.

The 6-foot-5, 316-pound former Lee’s Summit North standout told On3 on Tuesday that he is transferring to Mizzou after his freshman season at Oklahoma. A former four-star and top-100 recruit in the 2023 class, Green was listed by On3 as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the transfer portal.

“The culture, how tight the locker room is, how genuine and honest the coaching staff is,” Green told On3 of choosing Mizzou. “The chance to be big-time in the state that I grew up in stood out.”

According to a post on Green’s X (formerly Twitter) account in March 2022, Mizzou was among his five recruiting finalists, but the Tigers ultimately lost out to the Sooners.

As a true freshman at Oklahoma, Green saw action in 11 games this season. He started five of the final six contests for the Sooners, 10-2.

Touted as a potential cornerstone for the Sooners’ offensive line — with several players expected to either depart via the NFL Draft or transfer portal — Green turned heads in Norman after announcing he’d be entering the portal on Dec. 12.

Mizzou has already had an active offseason leading up to its Cotton Bowl matchup against Ohio State on Dec. 29. The Tigers have welcomed Clemson cornerback Toriano Pride and Georgia State running back Marcus Carroll, with Green now added into the mix.

Green is set to see some familiar faces upon arrival in Columbia. He joins former high school teammate Armand Membou at Mizzou, and another former teammate in class-of-2024 DE commit Williams Nwaneri.

Green’s homecoming comes at just the right time for the Tigers, with Mizzou’s offensive line expecting some vacancies ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft. It’s possible that Green will take the place of Javon Foster, a graduate student who started at left tackle for the Tigers for three seasons.
