New NIL deal puts Mizzou wide receiver Luther Burden III in the banking biz
First potato chips, now banking... Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III is working his way up the NIL ladder.
Commerce Bank has announced a name, image and likeness deal with one of Mizzou’s top players. Terms were not revealed, but Burden recently paid grocery shoppers’ bills as part of the Demetrious Johnson Charitable Foundation and hosted a free football camp in his native St. Louis.
A year ago, before he ever took a snap for the Tigers, Burden had an NIL deal with Old Vienna, which makes potato chips.
As a freshman, Burden finished as the Tigers’ second-leading receiver, with 45 receptions for 375 yards and six touchdowns. He also rushed for two touchdowns. Burden arrived as Missouri as one of the nation’s top recruits.
“I love St. Louis and giving back to the community that has supported me for so long,” Burden said.
Burden will share posts and highlights that document his experience with Commerce as a customer on his Instagram account @lutherburden3.
Burden’s latest NIL deal comes a week after Gov. Mike Parson signed an amended NIL bill. Under the new law, Missouri high school athletes can begin receiving NIL revenue when they sign with in-state programs. Also, coaches can become more actively engaged in NIL negotiations. The changes start on Aug. 28.
