Mizzou Tigers’ newly hired offensive coordinator has worked with some big-time coaches
Kirby Moore, who has spent the past six seasons at Fresno State, is Missouri’s new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
The school announced Moore’s hiring on Thursday. He served as the Bulldogs’ offensive coordinator for the first time last season and helped the Bulldogs to a 10-4 record. Fresno State won the Mountain West championship and beat Washington State in a bowl, ending the year on a nine-game winning streak.
Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz was the Tigers’ offensive coordinator and called the plays on offense for most of this past season. Quarterbacks coach Bush Hamdan left the MU program last month to become Boise State’s offensive coordinator.
Fresno State averaged 402.6 total yards and 30.6 points per game during the 2022 season. Missouri averaged 366.8 yards and 24.6 points with Brady Cook at quarterback. The Tigers finished 6-7 with a bowl loss to Wake Forest.
Moore was the Bulldogs’ wide receivers coach for three seasons and passing game coordinator for two before becoming the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under head coach Jeff Tedford. Moore also worked for current Washington Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer during DeBoer’s time as head coach at Fresno State.
Moore, a Washington State native who got into coaching as a wide receivers coach at the College of Idaho and then as a grad-assistant at Washington, said coaching in the SEC was appealing.
“From my initial conversation with Coach Drinkwitz, I felt the connection with his vision for the Missouri football program, and I am extremely thankful for the opportunity for my family and me to be Tigers and coach in the SEC,” Moore said.
As a player, Moore was a standout wide receiver at Boise State for then-head coach Chris Peterson. At Boise State, Moore played with older brother Kellen, a Heisman Trophy finalist as a quarterback and now the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive coordinator.
