Missouri will introduce its men’s and women’s basketball teams for the 2022-23 season in a Mizzou Madness setting ... but not in the basketball arena.

A basketball court will be placed on the Francis Quadrangle in front of The Columns and Jesse Hall. The event is scheduled for Sept. 30 at 8 p.m.

The school said in a news release Thursday that the men’s and women’s teams will participate in interactive games with the audience and feature a live DJ, food vendors and a laser show. The event is free to attend.

“We are embracing a spirit of innovation to provide our fans this first of its kind way to be introduced to our basketball teams,” Missouri athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois said.

Men’s coach Dennis Gates was hired after last season. Women’s coach Robin Pingeton is set to begin her 13th season in Columbia.

Mizzou plays host to Georgia in football the next day. A kickoff time hasn’t been announced.
