New Missouri men’s basketball coach Dennis Gates announced the completion of his staff on Tuesday with an emphasis on coaches and personnel who worked with him at his previous job, Cleveland State.

Special assistant Ryan Sharbaugh, chief of staff Matt Cline, director of basketball operations Chase Goldstein, scouting coordinator Dalon King and player development coordinator Perin Foote worked with Gates at Cleveland State.

Also named on Tuesday was Michael Fly, director of scouting and analytics. Fly spent the past four years as the head coach of Florida Gulf Coast, where his teams went 56-60, including 22-12 last season. He was an assistant coach for the 2013 team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.

Sean Conaty will serve as director of athletic performance. He was Oregon State’s strength and conditioning coach last season and previously worked at Buffalo.

Earlier, Gates hired three assistant coaches. Charlton “C.Y.” Young worked with Gates on Leonard Hamilton’s staff at Florida State and has served as Georgia Southern’s head coach.

Kyle Smithpeters had spent the last 10 years as the head coach of John A. Logan Community College and led his last team to a 29-4 record. That team was led by guard Sean East, the junior college player of the year, who will play for the Tigers next season.

Dickie Nutt, who spent 19 years as a head coach at Arkansas State and Southeast Missouri State, worked with Gates at Florida State and Cleveland State.
