After a series of additions to the Missouri Tigers’ men’s basketball roster, the latest news is regarding a departure.

Jarron “Boogie” Coleman Jr., a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Coleman arrived from Ball State a year ago. At Missouri he averaged 8.6 points and 4.3 rebounds while hitting 43.6% from the floor. He scored a season-best 18 points in a home victory over Alabama.

With the coaching change — head coach Dennis Gates was hired from Cleveland State to replaced Cuonzo Martin — Missouri has been among the nation’s most active programs in the transfer portal this offseason.

Coleman is the eighth player to transfer out. Among the others are Javon Pickett to Saint Louis, Travon Brazile to Arkansas and DaJuan Gordon to New Mexico State.

This week, the Tigers picked up a couple of players through the transfer portal, most recently guard Nick Honor from Clemson, giving them five players (to date) who will join next season’s roster.

Gates not only landed point guard Sean East from John A. Logan Community College, he also hired his latest assistant coach. Kyle Smithpeters compiled a 241-73 in 10 years at the Illinois school. The team went 29-4 this season and was led at the point by East, the NJCAA’s player of the year.

Smithpeters joins a staff of MU assistant coaches that includes Charlton Young and Dickey Nutt.
