Dennis Gates has landed his first recruiting commitment as Missouri men’s basketball coach.

Gates built much of his roster at Cleveland State through the junior college ranks. His first recruit to pledge for Mizzou follows a similar route.

Mohamed Diarra, a 6-foot-10, 215 pound forward out of Garden City Community College, announced his pledge to the Tigers on Friday. He was chosen Jayhawk Conference player of the year after averaging 17.8 points and 12.6 rebounds per game.

Diarra is an international product who grew up in Paris.

He had offers from several programs, including Pittsburgh, Marquette, Maryland and West Virginia, according to 247 Sports.
