Missouri Tigers women’s basketball season ends with home loss to Drake in WNIT
The Missouri Tigers women’s basketball season ended Thursday night in an 83-78 loss to Drake in a first-round WNIT game at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
The Tigers (18-13) were led by Aijha Blackwell’s 27 points, including her basket that tied the score at 66-66 and forced overtime.
Missouri got off to a 12-2 start after upsetting No. 1 South Carolina in the first game of SEC play and looked primed to be a force in the league.
But the team only got into the win column six more times through January, February and March, losing to Arkansas in its SEC Tournament opener and missing the NCAA Tournament field.
Also in the WNIT Thursday night, the Kansas City Roos lost 75-58 to Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The Roos (23-9) made their second appearance in the tournament and finished the season a victory short of the 1991-92 team for the most wins in program history.
Northern Iowa will face Drake in a second-round WNIT matchup.
