The Missouri Tigers have lost their most coveted men’s basketball recruit in five years.

Four-star Aidan Shaw announced that he has been released from his national letter of intent following the firing of Cuonzo Martin. He will be re-opening his recruitment.

“Thank you Mizzou, the coaching staff, team and fan base for all the love I have received throughout my recruitment process,” Shaw wrote in a social media post. “Due to recent events and with the support of my family, I have requested and received my release from the University of Missouri in order to reopen my recruitment.”

From Blue Valley High School, the 6-foot-8 Shaw was the highest ranked recruit to join the Mizzou program since 2017, when the Tigers added Michael Porter Jr., Jontay Porter and Jeremiah Tilmon for Martin’s first season. Shaw is rated No. 52 overall and the third-best player in Kansas, according to the 247 Sports Composite.

Shaw committed to Missouri in September over offers from Kansas, Iowa, Maryland, Oklahoma State and Arkansas, among others.

The Tigers only had one other player signed for the 2022 class. Christian Jones, a 6-foot-4 combo guard out of East St. Louis High School, hasn’t made any sort of announcement yet.
