Missouri Tigers guard Anton Brookshire entered the transfer portal on Monday, a source confirmed to The Star.

Brookshire is the first Mizzou men’s basketball player to enter the portal since the athletic department announced last Friday that coach Cuonzo Martin would not return.

It’s typical for players to enter the portal following a coaching change to test the waters with other teams until a new head coach is hired. If he doesn’t sign elsewhere, Brookshire could rejoin the Mizzou program.

Brookshire hadn’t played in a game since Feb. 8 while dealing with a wrist injury. He saw scattered time on the court, but wasn’t one of the team’s primary options at guard. He averaged 1.5 points, 0.8 assists and 0.8 rebounds in 8.9 minutes across 18 games this season.

A native of Springfield, Missouri, Brookshire joined the program prior to the 2021-22 season as a three-star recruit out of Kickapoo High School.

If Brookshire does leave the program, it could have implications on a key member of the Tigers’ roster. Trevon Brazile, who averaged 6.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game as a freshman starter this season, went to high school with Brookshire.
