Mizzou Tigers have more SEC competition in coaching search after LSU fires Will Wade

The Missouri Tigers will have plenty of competition within its own conference in its search for a new men’s basketball coach.

LSU fired Will Wade on Saturday and released the Notice of Allegations it received from the NCAA earlier this month, which contains multiple major infractions by Wade. That makes three openings in the SEC, as Georgia fired Tom Crean and Mizzou ousted Cuonzo Martin earlier this week.

“Today, we informed Will Wade that he has been terminated for cause, pursuant to the provisions of his amended employment agreement as the Men’s Basketball Head Coach at LSU,” LSU president William F. Tate IV said in a release. “Bill Armstrong has also been terminated as Associate Head Coach.

“For more than four years, the University has patiently allowed the NCAA investigative process to unfold, jointly working with the NCAA Enforcement Staff and, subsequently, with the Complex Case Unit (CCU), to ensure the evidence collected was as thorough and fair as possible. Throughout that time, the University and its men’s basketball program have operated under an exhausting shroud of negativity.”

Mizzou’s season, and Martin’s tenure, ended in a loss to LSU in the second round of the SEC Tournament earlier this week. Martin was fired on Friday.

Kevin Nickelberry will serve as interim head coach for LSU, which is expected to make the NCAA Tournament.
