Longtime Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel, the Tigers’ career coaching victory leader, will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame this year.

Pinkel will be announced as a member of the 2022 class, he confirmed to The Star on Friday. He’ll join Colorado running back Rashaan Salaam, Oklahoma State running back Terry Miller, Oklahoma defensive back Roy Williams and Florida State linebacker Marvin Jones, according to Brett McMurphy of Action Network, who first reported Pinkel’s selection.

During his time with Mizzou from 2001-15, Pinkel went 118-73. He led the program to 10 bowl game appearances and the only 12-win seasons in school history in 2007 and 2013.

Pinkel and the Tigers were ranked No. 1 in the country for the first time in 47 years in 2007, leading him to be named the Big 12 Coach of the Year. He guided Missouri in its transition to the SEC in 2012 and then won SEC East division titles in 2013 and 2014. He was named the SEC Coach of the Year in 2014.

Pinkel retired after the 2015 season after announcing that he had been diagnosed with cancer.

Also head coach at Toledo from 1991 to 2000, Pinkel is the all-time wins leader at both programs. His career record across both schools was 191-110-3.
