Missouri Tigers men’s basketball head coach Cuonzo Martin has tested positive for COVID-19, he announced Monday.

No players have tested positive, per a team spokesperson.

Mizzou (6-6) is scheduled to play its first SEC game of the season against No. 18 Kentucky (9-2) at Rupp Arena on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Central Time. Martin will be unable to coach in that game.

Assistant Cornell Mann will serve as acting head coach, per a team spokesperson.

“Encouraging everyone to stay safe during this holiday season. I’ve tested positive for Covid,” Martin wrote in a social media post. “Feeling well and thankful for our athletic training staff following protocol and keeping our team healthy. Our program is excited and ready to start conference play.”

Martin had indicated after the Utah game on Dec. 18 that he and his staff were in the process of arranging for everyone around the program to receive booster shots.

New league cancellation policies announced last week require teams to play if they have at least seven players and one member of the coaching staff available.

The Tigers are 6-6 and coming off a 88-63 loss to Illinois in the annual Braggin’ Rights rivalry game.
