Missouri Tigers’ Tyler Badie makes cut for prestigious college football award
Missouri Tigers running back Tyler Badie was named one of 10 semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award on Wednesday.
Badie is the only SEC player to make the cut for the honor, given annually to the best running back in the country.
Also on the list of semifinalists are Deuce Vaughn (Kansas State), Tyler Allgeier (BYU), Breece Hall (Iowa State), TreVeyon Henderson (Ohio State), Sincere McCormick (UTSA), Bijan Robinson (Texas), Abram Smith (Baylor), Sean Tucker (Syracuse) and Kenneth Walker III (Michigan State).
Badie, a senior, has been sensational for the Tigers this season. He has 12 rushing touchdowns and 1,239 rushing yards through 10 games, which ranks fourth in the FBS and also marks the fifth-highest single season mark for any player in program history, still with two games remaining.
The New Orleans native has produced four 200-plus rushing yard games in 2021, the first Tiger to do so. He is just the third SEC running back to reach that mark since 2000, joining Derrick Henry and Leonard Fournette. Additionally, Badie leads the country in rushes of 30-plus yards (10) and 40-plus yards (7).
Badie has also recorded 50 receptions for 337 yards and four receiving touchdowns this season. With a kick return in the mix as well, Badie ranks fourth nationally with 1,581 all-purpose yards.
No Missouri football player has won the Doak Walker. Finalists will be announced on Nov. 23 and the award will be presented on Dec. 9 live on ESPN.
Badie and the Tigers take on Florida this Saturday at 3 p.m. on Faurot Field.
