Connor Bazelak was back in action as the starting quarterback to open the Missouri Tigers’ game against South Carolina on Saturday.

Bazelak, a redshirt sophomore, started the first eight games of the season but was dressed in street clothes last weekend against Georgia after suffering a soft tissue injury against Vanderbilt on Oct. 30. True freshman Tyler Macon started in his place and split series throughout the 43-6 loss with redshirt freshman Brady Cook.

Mizzou won the coin toss Saturday and deferred. Kris Abrams-Draine picked off South Carolina quarterback Jason Brown on the second play of the game. But Bazelak threw an interception as well on the Tigers’ first series.

On Thursday’s injury report this week, Bazelak was listed as questionable. Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel reported several hours before the game that Saturday’s starting quarterback was a game-time decision.

Bazelak was on the field in uniform pregame and went through warmups with the first team, while Cook warmed up with the second team.

Through eight games this season, Bazelak has completed 206 of 302 passes for 2,138 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He’ll look to lead the Tigers to a much-needed win over the Gamecocks; they need to come out on top in two of the final three contests of the regular season in order to secure a bowl game berth.
