FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. Down goes ‘Bama. Texas A&M pulled off the unthinkable last Saturday, upsetting Alabama, the No. 1 team in the country and reigning national champion. Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher became the first Nick Saban assistant to take down his former boss, handing the Crimson Tide their first defeat in 19 games. Now, with a 4-2 record and signature victory to boot, Texas A&M is ranked No. 21 in the country in this week’s AP Top 25 poll.

2. Seven years in the making. Saturday’s game will be the first meeting between the Texas A&M and Missouri programs since Nov. 15, 2014. The Tigers won that matchup, 34-27, on the road, but are on a much different trajectory this season as they enter with a 3-3 record and will face an uphill battle to even make a bowl game.

3. Calzada on the come-up. Zach Calzada entered this year as the Aggies’ backup quarterback but was thrust into the starting role when Haynes King suffered a season-ending injury. In just his fourth career start, the sophomore completed 21 of his 31 passes for 285 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in A&M’s win over Alabama, earning SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors. He’s sure to be feeling confident following that historic win, which is a dangerous proposition for an abysmal Missouri defense.

4. Achane to the house. Texas A&M wide receiver Devon Achane was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week after recording a kickoff-return touchdown against the Crimson Tide. He caught the ball at the 4-yard line and dashed 96 yards to give the Aggies a 31-17 lead with eight minutes left in the third quarter. The Missouri City, Texas, native also had seven rushes for 34 yards and three receptions for 45 yards in the victory.

5. Don’t let the Aggies get ahead. If the Mizzou defense allows Texas A&M to get off to a hot start, the chances of an upset become even more insurmountable. Under Fisher, the Aggies are 22-4 when they’ve scored first and 21-0 in contests they’ve led after the first quarter.
