Mizzou football nabs this juco defensive end who was once committed to the Tigers

After missing his first chance to sign with the Missouri Tigers, defensive end Shemar Pearl will don the black and gold after all.

Pearl, a junior-college prospect from Garden City Community College, announced his commitment to MU coach Eliah Drinkwitz and the Tigers via Twitter Thursday. Pearl chose Mizzou over offers from Texas Tech and South Carolina.

If Pearl’s name sounds familiar, it should. He was once committed to former coach Barry Odom and Mizzou during the 2019 recruiting cycle, but he didn’t sign because of academic reasons. He elected to go the junior-college route at Garden City, where he played in 11 games, collecting 22 tackles and two sacks during the 2019 season.

Coming out of high school, Pearl had an impressive offer sheet that included the likes of Notre Dame, Alabama, Georgia and other schools. At 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds, he fills a need for the Tigers as an edge rusher.

Pearl is the 12th commitment of Mizzou’s recruiting class of 2021. Here are the other 11 pledges:

  • Four-star defensive end Travion Ford (St. Louis)
  • Three-star running back Taj Butts (St. Louis)
  • Three-star offensive lineman Connor Tollison (Jackson)
  • Three-star quarterback Tyler Macon (East St. Louis)
  • Three-star tight end Gavin McKay (Memphis)
  • Three-star cornerback Darius Jackson (Red Oak, Texas)
  • Three-star tight end Ryan Hoerstkamp (Washington)
  • Three-star defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo (St. Louis)
  • Three-star defensive back Davion Sistrunk (Melbourne, Florida)
  • Three-star cornerback Daylan Carnell (Indianapolis, Indiana)
  • Three-star cornerback Zxaequan Reeves (Cocoa, Florida)
