Mizzou football lands East St. Louis quarterback Tyler Macon for Class of 2021

Despite new NCAA recruiting restrictions and spring football practices being suspended, the Missouri Tigers and coach Eliah Drinkwitz landed a quarterback in the Class of 2021.

East St. Louis quarterback Tyler Macon made an oral commitment to Mizzou on Friday, announcing his decision on Twitter.

The 6-foot quarterback was considering UCLA, Vanderbilt, Illinois and other schools, but chose Drinkwitz and the Tigers. He’s a three-star dual-threat quarterback and the No. 616 prospect nationally, according to 247Sports.

Macon is Mizzou’s fourth pledge for the Class of 2021. He joins defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo (St. Louis), offensive lineman Connor Tollison (Jackson, Missouri) and tight end Gavin McKay (Memphis).

Once Macon signs with the Tigers, he’ll join a quarterback room projected to be full with returners. Both Taylor Powell and Shawn Robinson, the projected starter, will have eligibility remaining for the 2021 season. So will Connor Bazelak and Brady Cook, the last two quarterbacks Mizzou signed. Cook was the quarterback for the 2020 recruiting cycle, Drinkwitz’s first class.
