About Texas A&M (8-8, 2-3 SEC): The Aggies perked up during SEC play, earning a pair of wins over Vanderbilt and Mississippi, along with a close loss against first-place LSU. But it’s been a long season for Texas A&M after a brutal nonconference slate, including losses to Fairfield, Temple and Harvard. The Aggies struggle to score and defend well, much like Mizzou. KenPom has Texas A&M at No. 157.
About Missouri (9-8, 1-4 SEC): The Tigers lost back-to-back road games to Mississippi State and Alabama last week, dropping their record further down the SEC standings. It was a rough pair of games, especially after Mizzou showed promise in defeating Florida. Dru Smith and Mark Smith are crucial pieces to what Mizzou does with Jeremiah Tilmon sidelined with a stress fracture. KenPom ranks Mizzou at No. 75.
Prediction: This is a game Mizzou needs, especially after the recent skid. The next few SEC games are against weaker conference opponents and a winning streak can vault Mizzou up the standings. That starts on Tuesday against a mediocre Texas A&M team. We’ll say the Tigers take care of business — with some urgency mixed in — as a few more losses would kill any hope of Mizzou’s postseason hopes.
