Mizzou basketball guard Mario McKinney Jr. suspended indefinitely

Missouri Tigers guard Mario McKinney Jr. is suspended indefinitely from the men’s basketball team.

After the 91-75 victory over the Florida Gators on Saturday, Mizzou coach Cuonzo Martin vaguely addressed McKinney’s situation.

“He’s not part of the team right now, so I’ll leave it at that,” Martin said.

McKinney has appeared in seven games this season, last playing in the loss to Tennessee on Tuesday. He averages 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds per game as the team’s plan for him was to transition him to more of a combo guard. But it’s been a struggle for McKinney to earn consistent playing time among the many talented Mizzou guards.

A cousin to former Mizzou guard Jimmy McKinney, the freshman guard drew interest from fans as a talented in-state recruit.

McKinney appeared to tweet about his situation during the game against Florida on Saturday. There is no timetable for McKinney’s suspension to be lifted.
