Missouri’s Montaque Gill-Caesar competing for spot on Canadian under-19 basketball team
Missouri sophomore guard Montaque Gill-Caesar won’t take part in team activities as the offseason ramps up with the start of the summer semester.
Instead, Gill-Caesar is among 19 players battling for a roster spot for the under-19 Canadian national team.
Gill-Caesar was invited to training camp at Humber College in Toronto ahead of the U19 FIBA World Championships, which begin June 27 in Heraklion, Greece.
As a freshman for the Tigers, Gill-Caesar averaged 9.1 points, which was the third most on the team, with 3.0 rebounds and 0.7 steals last season.
Team Canada’s camp wraps up June 10 and the final roster will travel to Bilbao, Spain, for a series of exhibition games before the tournament begins.
Gill-Caesar played under Missouri assistant coach Rob Fulford at Huntington Prep in West Virginia and also played for the under-18 Canadian national team last summer.
He averaged 19.6 points and helped Canada claim the silver medal at the 2014 U18 FIBA Americas Championship in Colorado Springs.
