Missouri wide receiver Jimmie Hunt sits out at South Carolina
For the second straight week, Missouri lost a key starter to a midweek ailment.
Senior wide receiver Jimmie Hunt dressed but didn’t play after an infection was detected Tuesday in the bursa sac of one of his knees, according to Missouri coach Gary Pinkel.
He had it drained and he suited up before the game, but doctors wouldn’t clear him to play after warmups.
“He felt good and really wanted to do it. But our medical staff, they make all those decisions,” Pinkel said.
Last week, senior defensive end Markus Golden missed the Indiana game after a midweek hamstring strain.
The Tigers also were without senior wide receiver Darius White, who suffered a groin injury in the loss to Indiana.
Career-first catches
Senior Gavin Otte and freshman Lawrence Lee each recorded their first career catches.
Lee, a 5-10 and 180-pound slot receiver from Pensacola, Fla., made a spinning, 8-yard catch along the sideline in the first quarter.
He had been credited with minus-6 receiving yards last week after being the second player to carry the ball on a hook-and-ladder to Bud Sasser, but his first catch came against South Carolina.
Otte, a 5-10, 195-pound slot receiver from Rolla, Mo., hauled in a bubble screen on the second play of the third quarter. He was immediately tackled for a 3-yard loss.
Turnover streak
On the heels of a 47-game streak with at least one takeaway, Missouri is now streaking in the other direction.
The Tigers’ defense failed to record a turnover for the second consecutive week.
