Barry Odom continued his recruiting hot streak in St. Louis on Saturday, as 2020 Chaminade quarterback Brady Cook gave an oral commitment to play for the Missouri Tigers football team.

Cook, a pro-style quarterback, considered Mizzou to be his dream school and decided to wrap up the recruiting process early after recently picking up an offer from the Tigers.

“I’ve always wanted this offer and I always wanted to play at Mizzou,” he said. “Any other offer I’d get just wouldn’t compare.”

Before committing, Cook was hearing from the likes of Wisconsin, Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa State and Indiana. His primary recruiter was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Derek Dooley. On a recent visit to campus, Cook also hit it off with offensive analyst Austyn Carta-Samuels, who mainly works with the quarterbacks. Cook is rated as a three-star recruit by most recruiting services.

As a kid, Cook grew up watching former Missouri and Chiefs quarterback Chase Daniel and said he’s also been a huge fan of current quarterback Drew Lock.

Cook said he’s spent the current season doing more with his legs in order to keep defenses honest.

“I’ve definitely improved with my feet and footwork,” he said. “I have the ability to run and scramble now. And on the deep ball this year, I’m accurate with it. I can drive in the curls, the flats and over the top and in the middle. I’ve really come a long way this past year.”

While he’s the first commit in Missouri’s 2020 class, Odom currently has six in-state commits for the 2019 class, with that number likely to go up. Missouri has commits from St. Louis standouts Jack Buford, C.J. Boone and Maurice Massey.

Cook said he plans to help recruit 2020 wideouts Jairus Maclin and Jordan Johnson. Maclin is the cousin of Missouri legend Jeremy Maclin while ESPN currently ranks Johnson as the state’s top player for 2020.

“It’s crazy right now,” Cook said of Missouri’s local recruiting. “Everybody’s talking about it. Everybody knows Mizzou has something going on in this recruiting class.”
