Missouri officially announced the signing of K.J. Walton, a 6-foot-3 guard from Brownsburg High School in Indianapolis, on Tuesday.

Walton — who averaged 19.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.9 steals as a senior — becomes the sixth member of the Tigers’ 2015 recruiting class.

“We are excited to add K.J. to our Mizzou basketball family,” Missouri coach Kim Anderson said. “He is an outstanding athlete who has the ability to score from multiple guard positions. In addition, he has the potential to be an elite wing defender.”

Walton, a Rivals four-star recruit who is ranked No. 103 nationally, joins a backcourt that also added combo guard Martavian Payne from John A. Logan College, point guard Terrence Phillips from Oak Hill Academy in Virginia and Cullen VanLeer from Pacific (Mo.) High School for next season.

“Coach Anderson and his coaching staff really stood out to me,” Walton said. “They were great during the recruiting process and helped show me what Mizzou will offer me for a college experience. The atmosphere at the school is one-of-a-kind and has me really excited to get there.”

The Tigers also signed Blue Springs South forward Kevin Puryear and John A. Logan forward Russell Woods as part of the 2015 class.
