About Missouri (0-0): With the arrival of Michael Porter Jr., Missouri enters the season as an NCAA Tournament sleeper after three years where the Tigers were considered one of the worst Power 5 teams in country. Aside from Porter Jr., the Tigers also added freshmen bigs Jeremiah Tilmon and Jontay Porter in what is expected to be an interesting season under first-year coach Cuonzo Martin. Kassius Robertson, a graduate-transfer who was expected to be a three-point specialist, will start at point guard, according to Martin. Veterans Jordan Barnett, Kevin Puryear and Terrence Phillips are all expected to contribute on both sides of the ball after showing flashes under former coach Kim Anderson.

About Iowa State (0-0): Cyclones coach Steve Prohm has a long year ahead of him after being picked to finish at the bottom of the Big 12. Gone are star guards Monte Morris and Deonte Burton, who helped lead Iowa State to multiple NCAA Tournaments under both Prohm and former coach Fred Hoiberg. Donovan Jackson takes the reigns in the backcourt with the help of freshman Lindell Wigginton, which should provide the team with a solid scoring punch. Senior Marial Shayok provides Prohm with a big, physical guard he can lean on off the bench. Sophomore center Solomon Young will likely have his hands full guarding Tilmon, who has a 2-inch height advantage.
